About 1 in 6 Irish people experience a mental health problem like anxiety each year, and that number has risen over the last few decades. The number of young people experiencing anxiety has doubled since 2012. But we’re also talking about it a lot more, becoming more accepting of it and other mental illnesses as a society. This is good.
While mental health issues are indeed a serious matter, and a gloomy subject of conversation, it’s important to sprinkle in a bit of levity from time to time. Though social media can in fact lead to increased mental health concerns, it also creates spaces for sharing, comforting and increased awareness. They can help us to better understand our fellow man.
So here are eleven tweets that nail what living with anxiety is really like, as funny as they are relatable. If we're all miserable, we can at least laugh about it together, no?
